Dr Heather Leslie

Clinical Knowledge Oversight Officer / CCIO openEHR

Heather, an experienced clinician and health informatician, has dedicated 25 years to bridging the gap between non-technical clinicians and software engineers. Her goal is to ensure that clinical needs are accurately understood and implemented, using technology to enhance health outcomes. Since 2006, Heather has been instrumental in the openEHR Foundation, pioneering the practical development of the openEHR modelling methodology. Her work has been adopted by national programs, international organisations, and vendors worldwide. Heather will be presenting the ‘Sparked Accelerator – making open data work for Australia” and speaking about the Australian Core Data for Interoperability – a major first step in enabling the standardised capture, structure and exchange of healthcare data. ‘`for a project with FHIR outputs, it sounds very openEHR-like in philosophy and approach because the AUCDI itself is a library of modular clinical requirements based on openEHR archetypes.’ “I have to admit that I now sometimes wear a FHIR t-shirt under my openEHR hoodie!”
