2024 has been a year filled with achievements, connection, collaboration, innovation and growth for openEHR. Here’s a quick look at what we’ve accomplished together…
Joining the Global Standards family
openEHR is now part of the recognised global standards family. As a full member of the Joint Initiative Council (JIC), alongside HL7, SNOMED, OECD – OCDE, and LOINC, we’re forging pathways to global collaboration. We’re proud to be in such esteemed company, and look forward to exploring the ways in which this membership will help to enhance our recognition and strengthen our mission in the coming year.
European partnerships
Our work with European and industry partners continues to gain traction as we collaborate on key standardisation initiatives, which is why we’re also pleased to have been accepted as a liaison member of the European standardisation body CEN 251. Happy Christmas CEN and CENELEC!
Collaboration with HL7
In May, we announced discussions with Health Level Seven International on aligning our standards. This exciting collaboration promises to simplify the global standards landscape, moving us all closer to our shared goal of easing implementation for health systems and industry stakeholders. A joint mini conference and board meeting between openEHR and HL7 is set for June 2025 in Amsterdam, to formalise joint initiatives. Watch this space!
Strengthening ties with SNOMED
SNOMED International has supported openEHR by making their full terminology available for development and testing. This collaboration will enable more consistent and seamless terminology deployment. A partnership agreement is now signed and we look forward to 2025 collaborations.
CSIRO and Ontoserver
Our partnership with CSIRO has brought their powerful Ontoserver into the openEHR ecosystem for development and testing purposes.
Upcoming opportunities
Discussions with IHE, IEEE and GS1 are progressing, opening up even more exciting possibilities for 2025, so we encourage members to get involved in these joint initiatives. Applications are also open for our inaugural Fellowship programme, aimed at building global capacity and capability. The deadline for applications is 31 January 2025, so if you’re interested in taking part, then don’t miss out!
Collabrathon
November’s 24-hour Collabrathon was a thrilling app-building challenge focused on federating International Patient Summary data across multiple CDR vendors, with participants tapping into their creativity and innovation to solve real-world problems against the clock as part of…
EHRCON24!
Our first annual conference in Reading was a great success, drawing 220 participants and 60 speakers. With three dynamic content streams, EHRCON24 showcased our growth, new partnerships, and shone the spotlight on the future of the standard. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with 100% of respondents eager to attend in 2025. But where? Affiliates and members have been invited to host next year’s event, so if you’re interested in EHRCON25 taking place in your city, then get in touch.
To our board members, community, and industry partners – your dedication, insights and support are the foundation of openEHR’s progress. From sharing knowledge to promoting activities and driving membership, you’ve helped make 2024 a landmark year.
As we reflect on this year’s milestones, we’re looking forward to an even brighter 2025. From all of us at openEHR, we wish you a very mEHRry Christmas. May the new year bring health, happiness, and continued success in our shared mission to transform healthcare for the better.
